As budgets are being slashed, pupil numbers are increasing and pressure is building within UK schools, finding the finances to support children with up-to-date resources is becoming increasingly difficult. Here at BookLife, we’ve decided we want to help primary schools across the UK.
Currently, only 53% of children will reach expected reading levels by the end of KS2. Our research has shown that as many as 70% of UK primary schools are only able to spend less than 30% of the recommended budget for library books. Having operated in the education industry for many years, we feel that, now more than ever, help is required.
To help alleviate the pressure on book budgets in schools, we’ve established a Match Funding scheme. This means that for every pound a school spends with us, they will have a second pound given to them to spend on over 3,000 school catalogue products, thereby helping budgets to stretch further and putting twice as many quality library books in the hands of pupils up and down the country.
We piloted Match Funding back in April 2017 to see the effects it would have and as a result of its success, we’ve decided to launch the programme nationwide, to ensure that all schools can benefit.
“Our School is in a deprived area and it has always been our aim to provide a fantastic range of books to inspire our children to develop a love of reading. With BookLife's amazing match funding offer we have been able to expand our resources to further achieve this goal.” – Julie Jones, Orchards C of E Primary School
“The whole school is thrilled with the amount of books that we have now got in stock. Thank you for the match funding scheme that you have offered us, it will make a huge difference to the children's learning. Two of our year five children have written a letter of thanks to BookLife.” - Rebecca Moore, Narborough Primary Academy
Any school can take advantage of Match Funding as many times as they would like and with no minimum or maximum spend every school can make the most of this no matter what their budget. We hope Match Funding will ease pressure on schools and help maximise their resources.
